Celebrating Opportunities and Equity

The long and storied Springfield College history of the pioneering spirit of progress, of equality, and of social justice are being celebrated in 2022-23 as the College community marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX. Convened by President Mary-Beth Cooper, PhD, DM, the Title IX Commemoration Steering Committee is planning College-wide events to celebrate the breadth of impact Title IX has had on education.

In addition to commencement speaker gender-equity advocate Billie Jean King, Celebrating Opportunity: 50 Years of Title IX will include numerous other events.

The Title IX Commemoration Steering Committee charged by the President's Leadership Team is comprised of Director of Alumni Relations Tamie Kidess Lucey '81, G'82; Director of Athletics Craig Poisson, G'90, DPE,'99; Professor of Physical Education and Distinguished Springfield Professor of Humanics Kathy Mangano '86, G'88, EdD; Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Student-Athlete Well-Being and Senior Woman Administrator Michelle Lee Scecina '97, G'01; Professor of Communications Marty Dobrow; Director of Non-Discrimination Initiatives/Title IX Administrator and 504 Coordinator Erin Leeper, G'11; graduate student Juhi Dasrath; and undergraduate student athlete Callie Morris. Dean of the School of Physical Education, Performance, and Sport Leadership M. Susan Guyer, DPE'03, and Women's Basketball Coach and Associate Professor of Physical Education Naomi Graves, G'85, are co-chairs.
